Taste of Dorchester Tour
|
Meet your step-on tour guide at
the Dorchester County Visitor Center in Cambridge, Maryland.
Then, travel through the vast countryside of Dorchester County,
as your tour guide gives you a history of the county and
discusses the workings of the local economy. Step aboard our 52' Chesapeake Bay charter boat, and enjoy a one hour-long narrated cruise, complete with Chesapeake Bay crabmeat samples. Listen to Captain Dave Schauber discuss how commercial fishermen in Dorchester County have made a living for hundreds of years with the use of crab pots, trot lines, and pound nets. Keep your eyes open for some of the migratory bird species that inhabit Dorchester County, including ospreys, brown pelicans, and great blue herons. |
Hop back on the bus and head to Old Salty's Restaurant and Gift Shop, where a buffet-style seafood meal awaits you and your group! The meal includes Chesapeake Bay crab cakes made from meat that was picked right here in Dorchester County. The meal also includes soft-shell crabs, locally-caught fish, ham, chicken, tossed salad, vegetables, and much, much more! This meal provides a real flavor of Maryland's Eastern Shore! |
After lunch, get back on the bus and enjoy the scenic drive to Layton's Chance Vineyard & Winery. Layton's Chance is Dorchester County's first winery! It is owned and operated by the Layton family, who has farmed the fields of Dorchester County for nearly 100 years, cultivating corn, wheat, and soybeans. They started the winery in 2005. When you arrive at the winery, enjoy a tour of the vineyard, as the winery staff informs your group of the grapes that are used in the production of their wine. You'll also have the opportunity to see the machinery and equipment that they use to make the wine. After that, it's time to go into the tasting room to sample some of the many wines that are available. Wine will be available to purchase to take home. |
