Hoopers Island
Experience Tour
Visit Hoopers Island,
see an oyster aquaculture facility in one of Maryland's newest
industries, enjoy a buffet-style meal
that provides the full flavor of the Eastern Shore, visit a popular
produce market, and take some seafood home with you at the end of the
day!
After meeting our step-on tour guide at the Dorchester County
Visitor Center in Cambridge, Maryland, travel through lush pine forests
and over the waterways of south Dorchester County, as our
tour guide educates and entertains your group with the history
of Dorchester County, and a discussion of the industries that support
the local economy.
Arrive at Madhouse Oysters, an oyster aquaculture facility that
represents one of the newest industries in Dorchester County. This
facility produces farm-raised oysters that start as grain-sized baby
spat. See how this facility grows these oysters to a full-size edible
state on Hoopers Island. |
| This visit will then be followed
by a driving tour of Hoopers Island. See important landmarks
including where the Phillips Seafood empire started, and go over
the Narrows Ferry Bridge, which provides a birds-eye view of
both the Honga River and Chesapeake Bay! |
| After touring Madhouse Oysters and Hoopers Island, it's time for lunch!
Head to Old Salty's Restaurant and Gift Shop! The meal is served buffet-style and features crab cakes,
fish, clam strips, chicken, vegetables, tossed salad, and much more! An assortment of pie
slices will be available for dessert.
